As a focus of her medical school training, Dr. Kitt completed a 2.5 year naturopathic midwifery program in which she attended home births with naturopathic physicians and certified nurse midwives, and interned with obstetricians.  She is certified by the American College of Naturopathic Obstetrics (ACNO) and licensed in natural childbirth in Oregon, and trained for pelvic floor rehab. Though not currently offering labor and delivery care, Dr. Kitt is uniquely qualified to assist women throughout pregnancy and in the post partum period of transitions. She prioritizes seamless care for growing families and their mothers, and can pick up care when obstetric or midwifery care ends.

How can women optimize themselves as “habitats” and ecosystems for growing humans? The time before conception occurs is an optimal period for working on self-care, nutrition and overall well-being. This can both facilitate eventual pregnancies and help recover from the previous decades of stress and wear and tear on the body. Preconception care includes family planning, fertility help, & optimizing nutrition and stress for men and women.

So many women spend the first quarter of their life actively avoiding pregnancy, and then when it feels like “the right time” to start their family, they struggle with conception. There are many gentle, natural, supportive therapies that facilitate pregnancy, and Dr. Kitt is happy to talk with women and their partners about this, investigating whatever needs deeper scrutiny for a successful outcome.

Once pregnant, women often are surprised at the symptoms they experience and the demands of pregnancy on the body– it can be difficult to continue daily life without added support from trusted healthcare providers, family members and co-workers.  Dr. Kitt is excited to work with any pregnant women to help ease the four stages of pregnancy and growth of those new beings! She has experience with natural treatment of common pregnancy complaints like fatigue or constipation, & can support women with diagnoses such as gestational diabetes, or pregnancy induced hypertension

Six weeks after a woman has had her baby, she’s considered “done” with pregnancy in the western medical model. However, at 6 weeks post partum, most women still have sore bottoms or bellies and a lack of stomach muscle strength, are suffering from sleep-deprivation, and feel unfamiliar with their new mommy bodies. Often, women are over-whelmed with the responsibilities of motherhood and finding that they can’t figure out how to get the support they need – for breastfeeding, pumping, infant care, their own recovery from birth or helping everyone to sleep–especially while simultaneously caring for baby. On top of all that many women are needing to prepare to return to work soon after the 6-week mark. The post partum period really lasts the entire first year of baby’s life. Dr. Kitt offers care for both mom and newborn, for any post partum related concern. This can include breast feeding support, pelvic floor pain, diastasis recti, post partum depression, tongue tie diagnosis, fussy babies, food introduction & vaccine education.
