Pelvic floor therapy is coming into vogue after too many years of ignoring one of the most essential and important areas of the body, labeling it “private” or “personal.”

Pelvic floor therapy targets the pelvic bowl muscles, which make up the base of our “core.”Symptoms can develop over time that seem difficult to treat, and for these a hands-on approach can have profound benefits. Childbirth, injuries & falls, emotional stressors, sexual experiences, surgeries, repetitive daily activities such as sports, jobs, and hobbies can all affect the function of our pelvic floor. Reasons to consider pelvic floor therapy include incontinence, painful sex, menstrual difficulties,  vaginal dryness, low back pain and hemorrhoids. It is recommended for all women 6 weeks post childbirth as even uncomplicated births can lead to muscular imbalances and pelvic floor dysfunction, as can c-sections. Pelvic floor therapy is effective even years after the triggering events.

A pelvic floor targeted session may include external work on the gluteus muscles, legs or low back in addition to internal work. Some initial palpation or muscle testing often helps Dr. Kitt locate the main areas of concern. Patients are in charge of their appointments, and Dr. Kitt is in communication with patients to provide a safe, therapeutic environment for healing.

Note: As of 3/1/23 Dr. Kitt is no longer treating patients for male pelvic complaints due to office limitations for this population.
