Nutrition
So much of our health depends on what we put into our body on a daily basis for fuel, fluids and fun. Dr. Kitt has studied nutrition extensively and enjoys helping patients discover what foods best sustain each person. Sometimes this involves identifying food intolerances that are at the root of symptoms, and then learning how to avoid those foods without losing the richness of a diverse diet. Sometimes there are more subtle changes that can fine tune the body’s biochemistry, for example: enabling even blood sugar levels or optimizing hormone balance.
Lifestyle modification
Stress, lack of sleep, exercise habits, diet, relationships, work and free-time all impact our health! Dr. Kitt delves into these areas with patients to discover where complaints may be originating or to help optimize patient wellness and performance. In children, creating good habits early on can facilitate life-long health and help avoid many of the pitfalls that adults of today adopted in their own youth!
Homeopathy
Homeopathy is a centuries-old medicine that uses minute doses of substances to stimulate a person’s body to heal itself. Every physical being has a “vital force” that is constantly seeking balance— sometimes this results is a teeter-totter of symptoms rather than an even-keeled experience. For example, irritable bowel syndrome can involve fluctuating between difficult constipation and urgent diarrhea; the body does wind up eliminating its waste, but an appropriate homeopathic can remind the body how to create a more regular, less-symptomatic daily process.
Dr. Kitt loves homeopathy because it’s the epitome of individualized medicine, asking the practitioner to find a particular remedy for each person’s unique symptom picture. It blends well with other naturopathic modalities and often enhances the results of the entire treatment plan. It’s such gentle medicine that it can be used with infants or the elderly, in the ill and in people whose bodies just need a nudge in a different directly, rarely causing any side effects at all.
Botanical Medicine
Another well-rooted healing therapy, botanical medicine is a powerful ally for humans. People’s bodies resonate with the biological signatures of plants and using whole plants to balance internal physiology nourishes while healing. Whole plants are more like foods than pharmaceuticals; they offer wide arrays of vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants beyond the “active constituent” aimed at a particular symptom.
Nutraceuticals
Sometimes targeted amino acids, vitamins, minerals or anti-oxidants are useful for urging the body into balance. When there are nutritional deficiencies that are causing symptoms, getting a therapeutic dose through food or herbs can sometimes be difficult. In these cases taking an appropriately dosed nutrient can make a world of difference.
Targeted prescription medications
Many patients arrive in our office taking many medications prescribed by other physicians. In other cases, Dr. Kitt may recognize the need for a prescription for a certain complaint. In general her philosophy about prescriptions is that she’d like her patients on the smallest doses for the shortest amounts of time. She is trained to help patients wean off of medications as well as mitigate side effects or medications by optimizing detox, providing herbs or nutraceuticals to help balance the physiology, or altering dosing frequency or time of day to avoid medication interactions with each other, or with sleep, digestion, mood or energy.
Manual therapy
Structural Integration and pelvic floor therapy blend well or can be used individually to help relieve pain and discomfort from desk jobs, motor vehicle accidents or other postural habits, resolve urinary or menstrual symptoms, recover from childbirth or prepare for pregnancy.
