Structural Integration (SI) was developed by Dr. Ida Rolf in the 1970’s. Her goal was to use manual therapy over a series of sessions to address connective tissue complaints throughout the body. She found that often a person feels pain in one spot that may be originating from lack of mobility or restriction in another place entirely. If manual therapy only ever happens at the locus of pain, long-term healing can’t occur. Dr. Kitt’s training was anatomy-focused and she uses it in both series-work as well as targeted appointments to best address patient symptoms. Patients often report that the structural bodywork sessions last much longer than “regular massage.” Structural Integration often incorporates the movement of the client during bodywork which engages the nervous system and brain, facilitates unwinding tissue and leads to deep changes for the clients.
